Back to School: Reminders for drivers

SAN DIEGO - Texting while driving, speeding and not respecting school bus rules can lead to dangerous situations for children near schools.

The San Diego Unified School District starts school on September 8, and safety near campuses is always a top concern.

The California Highway Patrol said that texting while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk.

In school zones where hundreds of kids could be walking around, texting while driving could be extremely dangerous and should be avoided.

You should also obey all speed limits in school zones. When children are present, the speed limit is usually 25 mph, but always check to make sure it isn't lower.

When it comes to school buses, if they have the red stop sign out or have flashing lights or both, you must stop immediately before passing the school bus.
